Stompin' Tom Connors
July 27 Memorial Centre 8pm Peterborough 705-743-3561
Want a preview for this show? - you are in luck.
Just released - Stompin' Tom's first Live DVD!
Filmed at Hamilton Place last September.
We love this concert DVD.
I was there.
I am even in the video a bit - in the audience scans -
"Hey Ma, I'm in a rock video!"
Tom's performance is excellent and we get a lotta songs out of one single show. Amazing, really. And you wouldn't believe how he can yodel.
There are some private interviews and a few private solo recordings on it.
It rocks. And it is so homey, I guess is the word. It made me feel proud. Proud to be a part of supporting Canadian music. Tom sure has over the last handful of decades. sigh. Anyway..
You must have all heard about how Stompin' Tom was Stompin' Mad at the CBC. You can read a bit about it here ;

His show was subsequently picked up by CTV, aired July 1 (how appropriate) and this live DVD released 3 days later.

And I just got this article with a photo of Tom in the Hamilton Spectator, dated July 25, 2006.
The author of this editorial letter is making a point about staying true to your country.
From "Believe in Your Country" by Stompin' Tom Connors:
"If you don't believe your country
Should come before yourself,
You can better serve your country
By livin' somewhere else." |

Twang Twang a Diddle
Diddle Diddle Danga Twanga Twanga
Twang Twang a Diddle
And another Dang Twang
And there he was, as large as the whole country.
He was singing to many of the same folks who used to come out to see him at the King George Hotel (now the Rooster) when he was a 27 year old.
His stories - all truly Canadian folk tales and love songs - witty lyrics preserving pieces of our heritage, got us all singing and laughing and even some of us doin' a little gumboot* cloggin'.
We got many of the best:
Believe in Your Country
The Ketchup Song
Big Joe Mufferaw
Tillsonburg
Gumboot Cloggeroo
Take Me Back to Old Alberta (a yodelling tribute to Wilf Carter)
Bud The Spud
Margo's Got The Cargo
Luke's Guitar
Sudbury Saturday Night (Kim Mitchel does a wicked version of this)
and of course, Peterborough Postman - how could he NOT do that one, eh?
