Sam Roberts and Shaker at Arizona's in Thorold ON, July 2nd, 2005.

"We all need someone to save our souls"

Saturday night brought hundreds of fans out to Thorold for an outdoor rock 'n' roll show - the way you just gotta love 'em. Warm night, cool breeze, a loud sound system and some of the best rock'n'roll in Canada.

The Sam Roberts Band is back in town after a few months down under and they were happy to be playing for their countrymen once again.
And us countrymen were happy to see them all again looking quite healthy.
They had just played the Live 8 in Barrie that afternoon.

A few new songs on the soon-to-be-released CD came out like the opener "The Bootleg Saint", "Bridge to Nowhere" (And you're getting there fast), and one called "With a Bullet".
And of course, everyone's favourites, Hard Road, Where Have All The Good People, Paranoia, This is How I Live, (as Sam pointed to his stage and his band), Taj Mahal (closest to my heart), and Brother Down.

There was no way they could turn down the chants for an encore.
They came back with Eileen, No Sleep and live rock anthem Hot Metal with a guest appearance by the "pride of Newfoundland", Darrell Cooper.

One change that I must mention - there was a new drummer named Josh Trigger, who fit right in with his style, and the long-haired-hippie look, often associated with these fine revivalists.

Shaker, a foursome from Kitchener, opened for Sam, sounding like another Canadian rock'n'roll band ready to take off.
They are:
Dan Brooks – vocals, guitar
Steve Labine – backup vocals, guitar, keyboards
Johnny Dolinar – bass
Rob Butcher - drums

See Sam in Guelph on Sunday, July 24 at the Hillside Festival, and at the Kee to Bala on Saturday, August 20th.
